Abstract
"News" piece on a 650,000-acre conservation easement along the West Branch of the Penobscot River. At issue is the level of forestry that will be practiced on more than half of the tract, which is owned by Yankee Forest LLC, a part of Yale University's Yale Foundation. Yale bought 343,745 acres from McDonald Investment Co., a Birmingham family business, for $87,667,183, and then hired Wagner Forest Management Ltd. of Lyme, N.H. to oversee management of the land. Also, with details about 15,000 acres of forest land owned and managed by the University of Maine.
