Abstract
"News" piece on a legislative bill that would regulate the $100 million salmon farming industry. The bill, which was recently aired at a public hearing held by the Legislature's Marine Resources Committee, would include requirements for municipal approval of offshore leases, wage standards and federal clean water permits. If adopted, the legislation could also lead to a two-year moratorium on new leasing west of Bass Harbor Light on Mount Desert Island, excluding the towns of Frenchboro and Swans Island. With comments by those who oppose and those who support the bill.
