Abstract

"News" piece on the final recommendations of the Round Table on Economic and Labor Issues in the Forest Products Industry, which focus mostly on loggers' pay and benefits-related issues. Activist Mitch Lansky and state represenative David Trahan, R-Waldoboro, are discouraged with the results. The goal of the round table was to determine how to keep more value-added wood processing in Maine and make logging a more respected and attractive profession. Lansky and Trahan are hopeful the Legislature will initiate field hearings and a "loggers' summit" to continue the effort.
