Abstract
"Visual Arts" piece on "The Four Mollys," an art exhibit being presented at the Abbe Museum in Bar Harbor through Oct. The exhibit focuses on four Native American women, each named Molly, which is the Wabanaki pronunciation of Mary. The subjects include Molly Mathilde (c. 1665-1717), daughter of Chief Madockawando; Molly Ockett (c. 1740-1816), a Pequawket Indian; Molly Molasses (c. 1775-1867), said to be a witch; and Molly Dellis Nelson, also known as Molly Spotted Elk (1903-1977), a dancer who acted in Hollywood films.
