Abstract

"News" piece on the Maine Water Utilities Association, which has terminated its longstanding relationship with the law firm of Verrill & Dana, citing a potential conflict of interest. The firm, which lobbies the Legislature on behalf of the association, recently contracted to represent the city of Brewer in its effort to take over the operation of the public water supply and dissolve the quasi-municipal water district. Legislation to dissolve the Brewer Water District has been submitted to the Legislature's Energy and Utilities Committee. The bill, LD 2147, proposes to transfer all of the district's assets to the city of Brewer.
