Abstract
The summer issue of Northeast Woods and Waters, a Massachusetts outdoor magazine, reported on the death of legendary outdoors writer John Cole of Kennebunkport. Bob Pond, a columnist from the magazine, actually attended Cole's funeral. Cole, still alive, heard the news of his alleged death from a fishing buddy. The Portland Press Herald wrote an obituary for Cole in 1979, but the story never ran.
