Abstract

Champion International's Stewardship and Sustainability Initiative divides the company's lands into four categories and establishes stewardship goals. A key part of the initiative is protecting the land along streams and rivers. Champion hired wildlife biologist Gary Donovan to improve management, and 20 percent of company lands have been set aside from logging. The company recenlty purchased 140,000 acres and a lumber mill in Maine, making it the state's fourth-largest landowner, with 909,979 acres. Details.
