Abstract
Grant's Dairy of Bangor has decided to sell more of its milk out of state, due to the unexpected loss of the large Shop 'n Save account. The move means Grant's will pay its 70 suppliers a monthly bonus of 3/4 cent per gallon, just over half the premium paid under the Maine Milk Pool. Stan Bennett of Oakhurst said farmers stand to lose some money because of the milk pool shrinkage, but doesn't believe Grant's leaving the pool will substantially lower the price Maine dairy farmers receive. Farmers are concerned that Oakhurst could also leave the pool and shift to the federal rules, collapsing the Maine Milk Pool. Details.
