Abstract
White Oak Inc. of St. Francis, consisting of Vernal and Pauline Nadeau and their son, Mike, purchased a wooded 574-acre lot in Haynesville in March 1995. White Oak clearcut the land, and resold it in August 1996 for $55,000. The liquidation harvesting created the largest illegal clearcut investigated since the Maine Forest Practices Act went into effect in 1991. The Nadeaus, in a settlement with the state, agreed to pay a $12,000 fine. The new owner, Alfred Negri of Houlton, plans to let the forest grow back. Details.
