Abstract
Shaw's Appalachian Trail Hikers Hostel in Monson is the last civilized stop before the 100-mile wilderness and the northern end of the Appalachian Trail at Mount Katahdin in Baxter State Park. Keith and Pat Shaw hosted their first hiker in 1977, and on June 29, 1996, hosted their 20,000 hiker. The stop allows hikers to rest and refuel before the last part of their journey.
