Abstract

More than half of Mainers used wood as their primary source of heat in the late 1970s, but that figure has since dropped to around ten percent. The current price for cut, split, green wood isn't that much cheaper than oil, but the comparison doesn't take into account the more efficient nature of contemporary wood stoves.
