Abstract

Dale Preston, an inmate at the Maine State Prison in Thomaston, has been sentenced to 20 days in segregation and has had his early release date moved back 20 days because of remarks he made to independent gubernatorial candidate Angus King during a visit by King to the prison. Preston, president of the prison's chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, made statements alleging that prison inmate Gary Penny was beaten to death by guards during the mid-1980s.
