Abstract

WoodenBoat magazine, based in Brooklin, this weekend will sponsor its first Maine show after a five-year run in Rhode Island. Jon Wilson, editor of the magazine, said that the claim that surfaced two decades ago about non-profit, wooden boat-building schools taking work from professional boatbuilders is to some extent true, although the resurgence of interest in wooden boats has led to the market being retaken by professionals. There are at least ten non-profit boat-building schools in Maine, and two-thirds of small wooden boats are being built by amateurs. Details.
