Abstract

Green Party gubernatorial candidate Jonathan Carter, speaking at the gubernatorial candidate's debate at the College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor, announced that if elected he would pay for environmental protection and natural resource programs by raising the income tax on those earning more than $100,000 from the current 8.5 percent to 10 percent. He would also do away with some sales-tax exemptions, but would lower the tax from the current six percent to five percent in the first year of his administration and four percent by 1998. Details.
