Abstract

Richard Hamilton, the new governor of the Penobscot Indian tribe, says he will propose selling the scattered lands purchased with the funds from the 1980 land claims settlement in order to buy land near the reservation in Old Town. Hamilton indicated the most difficult part of the proposal will be convincing white people that live in the areas where the tribe wants to establish land trusts that they won't lose the community's tax income.
