Abstract

The Maine Land Use Regulation Commission has negotiated a zoning agreement that will concentrate all future development on Metinic Island on the southern half of the island, and severely restrict activity on the northern half. The agreement is an outgrowth of concerns that sheep kept by the Post family, which has owned the island off Spruce Head since 1750, were interfering with endangered roseate terns, eiders and gulls that make their home on the northern part of Metinic.
