Abstract

Maine State Prison officials say inmates are responsible for the disappearance of 50,000 board-feet of lumber at the prison over the last year. Inmates in industry, who receive wood free of charge and are paid for each craft piece produced, were slipping wood to inmates in the crafts room, who pay for wood and receive a commission for each piece sold to the public in the prison showroom.
