Abstract

Children from French-speaking homes accounted for 67 percent of the language-minority students in Maine in 1986, but now account for only 28.9 percent. Asian students, speaking 24 different languages, now account for 19.3 percent of Maine's language minority students. The number of language-minority children in Maine is 3,250.
