Abstract

Response to a Portland Press Herald article that claimed tourism in Maine fared well despite the recession. According to another analysis of the study by University of Maine at Orono Professor Stephen Reiling, lodging sales during the five-year period examined failed to keep up with inflation, while restaurant sales rose 17 percent, slightly below the rate of inflation.
