Abstract
Letter to the editor from Steve Podgajny, executive director of the Portland Public Library, in response to Orlando Delogu's letter critical of the library (April 3-15). In response to Delogu's charge that the library "reneged on a promise to reexamine its fundraising efforts," Podgajny notes a 600-response public survey and a total of 30 public meetings held by the library over the past three years, during which time the library also raised $1,500,000 for operations. He questions Delogu's suggestion to punitively cut the library's budget below flat-funding at a time when its services are in the highest demand.
