Description
Supermarket banking in the Portland area began on March 9, 1981:
"Mrs. Ida Dugas, service representative for the InstaCard system at the Shop n' Save Supermarket [Hannaford's] , Westbrook Plaza Shopping Center, hands a withdrawal receipt and money to Robert Kenney of Maine National Bank in a demonstration of supermarket banking system which started its Portland-area operations today."
