Group of 6 Portland High School students training as soda fountain servers ("soda jerkers") at Sealtest Dairy ice cream plant (329 Commercial Street). Group of 6 young women at counter, each holding an ice cream soda .

Form article caption: "The shortage of boys employed as drug store soda-jerkers may not be so tough on customers after all- as soon as these recruits are placed at local fountains. The six Portland High School girls are among a group being trained in the art at a local ice cream plant to replace workers called into the armed services."
