Description
North Deering Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, 1301 Washington Avenue. Top image: Full exterior view of church. Bottom image: Interior view of sanctuary.
The church was dedicated the day after the photos were taken, on 8 May 1949.
Photos published in the Evening Express, on 7 May 1949.
From Richard Francis, of the Cecil B. Day Foundation:
The Alliance church was inspired by Old Orchard Beach (Seaside Pavilion) revival meetings, beginning in 1887, led by Prince Edward Island preacher Albert Benjamin Simpson. He was the visionary founder of the Alliance which originally was not a denomination, but an association of churches interested in encouraging foreign missions. The charter members of North Deering Alliance were from a variety of backgrounds. The official name of the church is the “A. B. Simpson Memorial Church of the Christian and Missionary Alliance.”
