Description

Full exterior view of building at 375 Fore Street, viewed from southeast on Moulton Street. Louis Maguire Pharmacy (377 Fore Street) at left. M.A. Sulkowitch Hardware and Paint Company (363-369) Fore Street) at right.
A view of this same block in 1966, can be seen at this link.

At the time of this photograph, the building at 375 Fore Street had been vacated by Edward J. Huelin's tailor shop, and was acquired by the Portland Seamen's Friend Society (former Seamen's Bethel), and became the Seamen's Club for Merchant Seamen and Enlisted Men. The Society's history dates back to a fund left by Captain Joseph How in 1870 to provide assistance to indigent mariners.
