Description

Full exterior view of the Portland Public Library, 5 Monument Square, from east.
The main branch of the Library relocated from the Baxter Building (619 Congress Street) to its new home on Monument Square, opening on 14 September 1979.
The building was designed by the Shepley, Bullfinch, Richardson, and Abbott architectural firm, constructed between October 1977 and March 1979.
