    Description

    Full exterior view of the Mutual Benefit Building, 34-36 Exchange Street, from southeast (north corner of Exchange Street and Milk Street in foreground).
    The building was designed by Matthew Stead, of Anderson, Bonnell and Company architects, and constructed 1866-1867. Historically known as the Merchants National Bank Block, the building later became home to the Portland Board of Trade.
