Description
Mrs. Nu Carpenter at Nu's Oriental Market, 46 Washington Avenue. The market opened in July 1984. Vietnamese owners Nu Carpenter and Michel Bocal previously owned the Que Huong restaurant, which was in the Market Street Market from 1979-1981, subsequently relocating to 83 India Street. Nu's Oriental Market specialized in Asian groceries "so you can fix all the Chinese food you want right at home," said Bocal. The market also supplied Asian groceries to Portland area ship chandlers.
The market continued in business until 2003.
