Description
Full exterior view of the Davis Block building, 390 Congress Street, from northwest. Portland Fire Department Central Fire Station (380 Congress Street) at left. Exchange Street at right. The Davis Block included Portland Business College (renamed Gray's Business College in 1898), and was demolished in 1947 as Guy Gannett Publishing expanded the Portland Press Herald building toward Congress Street. Gray's relocated to 10 Congress Square (the Libby Building), and the College (then known as Plus-Gray's Business College) closed in 1966.
See Additional Files link, below, for view of the Gannett Building extension under construction (opened in 1948).
