Abstract

"Focus: Marketing" piece on product placement, with a look at Maine companies whose products have been used in embedded advertising. Thomas Wilson, marketing director for Gritty McDuff's in Portland, says Gritty's recent appearance on a national television show has helped created buzz for the company. A neon Gritty McDuff's sign, Gritty's tap handles, and cases of its Vacationland Ale appeared prominently in an episode of the Showtime television series "Brotherhood." Though most Maine companies don't have the financing for a product placement deal, Gritty's, D.L. Geary Brewing Co., Thos. Moser Cabinetmakers and Angela Adams have all received free exposure.
