Abstract

"Focus on Building & Real Estate" piece on Ted Koffman, former administrator at College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor, who worked for years in the Legislature for passage of a bill that would overhaul building codes and level the playing field for those who wanted to restore historic downtown buildings. Maine now has a comprehensive state historic tax credit program and by 2010 will have a statewide building code that accommodates renovation of historic structures. Maine's tax credit includes a small-project provision that should benefit smaller communities in particular. With comments by developers on the possibilities of the new program.
