Abstract

The 10 Lithuanian friars and 16 student priests at the Franciscan Monastery in Kennebunk are trying to find hope in President Clinton's effort to expand the North Atlantic Treaty Organization alliance to include former Warsaw Pact members. The monastery is the world headquarters for Lithuanian Franciscans, and was established in 1947 by devotees who had fled Lithuania after the 1940 Soviet invasion of that country.
