Abstract

Central Maine Power Co. (CMP) has begun a program designed to minimize the risk of power outages caused by osprey nests. The large birds sometimes build their nests on power line poles, and have been known to be electrocuted by the lines. CMP is fixing round wooden platforms to the tops of trees near transmission lines in areas where ospreys fish, so the birds have an alternative to nesting on the power line poles.
