Abstract

The Portland City Council yesterday approved measures allowing Portland Trails to create a path under the Maine Turnpike in Stroudwater, build a footbridge over the Fore River in the same area and extend a trail between Back Cove and the Eastern Promenade. Portland Trails wants 30 miles of connected trails completed by the year 2000, and will pay $65,000 toward the cost of the bridge, which will give pedestrians access from Congress Street to the 80-acre Fore River Sanctuary.
