Abstract

Brief article reporting that federal lawmakers are considering a way to allow the Penobscot Indians to seek compensation for the damage done to fishing by hydroelectric dams around their reservation on Indian Island. The article also mentions reports that the reservation status of Indian Island is being vigorously challenged and that loss of reservation status would amount to an abrogation of the 1980 Maine Indian Land Claims Settlement commitments.
