Abstract

The South Portland City Council is considering whether to spend $60,000 to hire an appraisal firm to findout how much personal property is owned by businesses in the city and how much it is worth. Currently, the city has 1,000 businesses reporting property valued at $123 million. City Assessor Elizabeth Cumback believes much personal property is underassessed or not assessed at all, resulting in a decrease in property taxes paid.
