Abstract

The National Park Service has significantly altered its acquisition plan for the section of the Appalachian Trail that traverses Saddleback Mountain.. Saddleback Ski Area owner Don Breen, owner of Otis-Clapp pharmaceuticals of Massachusetts, insists he must retain some of the land to keep the area competitive. The Appalachian Trail Conference this year proposed acquiring less than 900 acres along the 2.7-mile stretch of trail, while allowing a greater expansion of the ski area. Details.
