The Historical Floats Parade, held on Monday, July 5th, 1920, in Portland, Maine, was a highlight of Maine’s Centennial celebration in 1920, with about two dozen floats representing moments from Maine’s European-American history. The official souvenir program for the centennial celebration contains a listing of the floats, along with black and white reproductions of the artist’s renderings of the floats. A selection of Joseph A. Damon’s painted sketches can be seen here.
The illustrations are accompanied by brief descriptions of each float and the names of the sponsoring individuals and organizations.
