Abstract

Profile of the Syrian-born musician called Assasi. Assasi performed Arabic hip-hop to a sold-out crowd at Mayo Street Arts in February, accompanied by a member of his ensemble Bilam el-Sham, Duncan Hardy, who played Qanun, a Syrian stringed instrument. Assasi talks about culture shock and feeling like a ghost and about how his experiences and emotions are reflected in the music that he makes.
