Abstract
A look at a new podcast from musician, photographer, and writer Genius Black. Each episode discusses a Black figure from Maine's history and includes an interview with a current Black Mainer who is working for change. The first episode featured Alfine Nathalie, a Kenyan-born, Portland-based holistic health provider, and a look at 18th century Machias resident London Atus who purchased his freedom and founded a settlement. Future episodes will include an interview with photographer and video producer Junes Thete and discussion of historical figures Pedro Tovookan Parris and John Brown Russworm. In this article, Genius Black talks about the music he chose for the podcast, his partnership with the Maine Monitor, and how the work has made him feel more connected to Maine.
