Abstract

Article detailing the work of Sahro Hassan, Youth Program Coordinator of the Somali Bantu Community Association since April 2022. Describes Kasheekee Youth Program, a summer-long event based in Lewiston which Hassan launched in order to help children in the Somali Bantu community connect with their culture through activities such as crafts, Arabic study, and gardening at Liberation Farms. Describes the social stigma which prevents members of the Somali Bantu community from seeking or benefitting from mental health care, and Hassan's choice to fight this stigma by pursuing a degree in counseling.
