Abstract

Article with photos describing purchase of a 30-acre farm owned by Maine Farmland Trust (MFT) in Lewiston by the New Roots Cooperative Farm, the first immigrant-owned coop farm in Maine. Jabril Abdi, Mohamed Abukar, Batula Ismail, and Seynab Ali signed the purchase agreement on January 20, 2022, after leasing the farmland for several years. Omar Hassan of the Cooperative Development Institute (CDI) provided support to the farmers in developing a business plan.
