Abstract

Updates from various community organizations that are dedicated to helping immigrants and New Mainers. In Her Presence has launched two new programs aimed at helping immigrants: Cultural Doula Training and Immigrant Tutor Training. The Greater Portland Immigrant Welcome Center continues to offer its language lab, is sponsoring a photography exhibit at the Portland Public Library, hosts a cooking class, and provides business start-up help. Hope Acts has hired additional staff and continues to operate the Asylum Application Resource Center and the Work Permit Clinic. The Maine Association for New Americans provides transportation services, mentors, and a peer support program. And finally, Community Organizing Alliance is nearing its one-year anniversary, offering programs and workshops to foster systemic change and empower BIPOC people.
