Abstract

An article centered around the large number of asylum seekers who began arriving in Maine beginning in June 2019. Discusses efforts to move the new arrivals out of emergency shelter at the Portland Expo before August 15. Discusses the need to use host families and other solutions due to Portland's lack of housing. A portion of the article titled "From ILAP" offers information from the Immigrant Legal Advocacy Project about changes to Maine's General Assistance (GA) programs; a French translation of this section immediately follows the English.
