Abstract

Resettlement agencies have been looking outside the major population centers of Portland, South Portland, and Lewiston-Auburn, to find affordable housing options for immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers. While residents of places like Bath, Brunswick, and Thomaston have welcomes the newcomers, there are challenges, including a lack of public transportation, obstacles to getting a driver's license, and limited opportunities for English language learning. Some people have noted, though, that without access to interpreters, English language learners pick it up more quickly in smaller communities. (Note: the article ends in mid-sentence.)
