Abstract

An interview with Mana Abdi, a legal advocate at Disability Rights Maine. Abdi discusses the struggles she has faced in pursuit of an education. Abdi describes her path from a Kenyan refugee camp to UMaine Farmington, and how lack of support - and outright skepticism about her intelligence - threatened her progress as a student. Abdi discusses the impact of her identity as a Black Muslim woman on her experience in Maine, and reflects on the needs of students of color to help them succeed in the American school system.
