Abstract
Portland's Parkside neighborhood is the most densely populated square mile in Maine, with over 4,000 people, including 600 children. In the calendar year starting October 1994, the neighborhood accounted for 37 percent of the city's rapes, 35 percent of its assaults and 25 percent of its robberies. Local historian Herb Adams, Clarkson Woodward of the Parkside Neighborhood Center and landlords Crandall Toothaker and Ken Ray comment on the neighborhood.
