Abstract

The Movies on Exchange Street in Portland celebrates its 20th anniversary this summer. Steve and Judy Halpert have operated the theater for 16 years, and started not knowing anything about running a cinema. The Halperts have created an art house atmosphere that has produced loyalty from its patrons. They play films not to make money but because people want to see them.
