Abstract

Cumberland County Child Development Services has promised to grant Westwood Children's Center of Portland a contract for the upcoming year, after Westwood agreed to make cuts in its programs. CDS said that Westwood was providing care that was excessive and overpriced, and that administrative costs at the 40-student school were absorbing more than 50 percent of its budget. The reductions in services means Westwood has lowered its daily cost per pupil from nearly $56 to around $44.
