Abstract
State representative Herb Adams this week was elected to the Portland School Committee with 72 percent of the vote. Adams won the special election to fill the West End-Parkside seat on the committee, left empty when Michael Riff resigned to take a position in New Jersey. Three percent of eligible voters cast ballots in the special election, which could be a record low. Adams defeated Erik Richard, 20, a youth and gay activist.
