Abstract

"City" piece on wiretapping in Maine. Federal Bureau of Investigation statistics show that seven telephone lines were tapped in Cumberland County on the busiest day between January 1993 and March 1995, compared to 35 in Kennebec County and 17 in Androscoggin County. The FBI is calling for Nynex to handle between nine and 12 taps in Cumberland County by October 1998, and will require cellular companies to have the capacity for two to four taps. Maine State Police major Jeffrey Harmon said the FBI numbers sound inflated. Details.
